Melbourne Day 2

Today we headed back out into Melbourne.  We began our day at the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium and finished it learning and shopping for opals.  90% of the worlds opals come from Australia - the unique environment during Australia's prehistoric times allowed these opals to form.  We learned about which parts of Australia they are found, how they are mined and turned into the final product.

Aquarium

This was the HUGE crocidile in the aquarium exhibit - we would eventually see a similar sized one on a river bank in the Daintree.... yikes!!!!

The penguins were fun to watch...

Taylor's Australia souvenier was this white opal...

This is Tiff's Boulder Opal... it came from Queensland.  My opal has some of its host rock showing and for some reason that really appealed to me.  It also has all the colors of the opals present which makes it super special (to me)!
