So stay away from our house as the girls are members of the elite club that have had the H1N1 virus, probably. The probably is the part that kills me -- I like to have it "all figured out" - so when the wonderful lady at the Clinic (who clearly hates her job) proceeded to tell me she would not recommend the Flu Mist to anyone (yet, she is the one that gave it to my kids) and that she has no way of telling me if Taylor is having a reaction to the flu mist or H1N1 or just regular flu - either way, she made sure I knew that she was upset with all parents who have come in there demanding Tamiflu. I finally got a little riled back at her and let her know I have demanded nothing and am looking for sound medical advice - heck, I am even paying her for it. After all said and done, she admitted our symptoms were more severe and later than a reaction should have been, got a positive result for the flu and given the amount of kids in Taylor's class who had the flu, it was likely she did get the flu and it wasn't the Flu mist.
It all goes back to my "lucky day" when I got them the live flu mist, my first mistake -- I thought I was saving them a shot -- but in reality, they now get a flu shot again as because they are on Tamiflu our flu mist is void! GREAT FUN! I have learned something though - a inactive flu shot is better than a live flu mist! I attempted to avoid a few minutes of crying (well, maybe more like terrified screaming and holding my 5 year old down with all my might)... but it was clearly not worth it!
can't even imagine the frustration!! thinking of you all and praying for a quick recovery!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear the girls are sick :( Hope you and Justin stay well!
ReplyDeleteDid the nurse say exactly why the flu mist is not as good? I personally have heard the opposite for a couple years. My pediatrician always recommends the flu mist. I'm curious...I too always get the shot so my kids can watch Mom being poked at. Thus far, we've had no problems with the mist. And why does taking Tamiflu make the mist void now? I think you should have drop kicked your nurse! :) But that's just me... Hope they are on the mend...poor things!!! Poor Momma too...
