The first few weeks of practice and games have been a bit of a struggle as we deal with new sports, new friends and new stages (field and court) where they are expected to perform in front of screaming fans (parents). Mom's patience hit all time lows during a few of these moments and was near calling it a season after 2 weeks of Aubrey not touching a soccer ball on the field. My patience was again tested as Taylor, who I am coaching, cried, crossed her arms and refused to participate in drills and games. All I wanted was for my girls to be having fun - and it wasn't happening... till today!!!!
Today, our goal for Taylor was that she was going to dribble the ball down the court once and not cross her arms and refuse to play at all. Well, guess what?!? She did not cross her arms once and she dribbled, passed, received passes, rebounded and even got a shot off!!!!!!! I am the coach so I am on the floor with tears in my eyes just screaming for my kid... our team got smoked, but I couldn't stop smiling as my daughter was the one making the plays and, most importantly, having fun!!!
I didn't even bother to put Aubrey's shin guards on this morning because I was not going to be able to go to her game and I didn't think she would play anyway. Well, Andrea must have ESP because she saved the day and just showed up out of the blue to watch Aubrey. Aubrey scored 2 goals in warm ups and participated, like running and kicking the ball, in 3 of the 4 quarters of the game. She was with the ball the entire time... except when she got distracted by a ditch on the side of the field. :) I wouldn't have believed it, but Andrea took pictures to prove it! (Thanks Andrea! I am so glad you showed up because this day would not have happened for her if you wouldn't have been there!) She too had FUN and the pictures show it - big smiles in them all!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............. What a day to be a mom! LOVED IT! Basketball pics to come next week as we can make both games because they are at different times and daddy will be home!!
There is no place I would have rather been. You've got two amazing girls and I'm sooooo proud of both of them!!!
